The Eat Right 4 Your Type or the blood type diet is one that follows your diet based on your blood type. This diet makes you healthier, slows down the aging process and will help you attain your ideal weight. The diet was formulated by naturopath Peter J. D’Adamo. He claims that the foods you eat react chemically with your blood type. If you follow a diet designed for your blood type, your body will digest food more efficiently. You’ll lose weight, have more energy, and help prevent disease.
Here’s what D’Adamo recommends for you:
- Type A Blood – A diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans and legumes which are ideally fresh and organic. A diet that is generally meat-free is good for this blood type as people with type A blood have a sensitive immune system.
- Type B Blood – People with type B blood should avoid corn, wheat, buckwheat, lentils, tomatoes, peanuts, sesame seeds, and chicken. He encourages eating eggs, green vegetables, low-fat dairy, and certain meats.
- Type AB Blood – People with type AB blood should have foods like tofu, seafood, dairy and green vegetables. They should keep away from smoked or cured meats, alcohol and caffeine as they have low stomach acid.
- Type O Blood – D’Adamo recommends a high-protein diet heavy on lean meat, poultry, fish, and vegetables, and light on grains, beans, and dairy and various supplements. He says that people with type O blood tend to have stomach troubles.
According to this blood type diet, you need to restrict the foods you eat. There are also recommendations on the types of spices and condiments you can use. However, the diet may be restricted if you have a medical condition. It fails to address conditions like heart diseases, high blood pressure or cholesterol, diabetes etc. Though the diet may sound fancy but the research has not proven that it can aid digestion or energize you more. If the diet according to blood type suits you then you can continue, but if you suffer from an ailment it is always advised that you consult your doctor beforehand.
