Have you ever thought about the things you are doing on a daily basis that can harm your skin? We never pay attention to our daily habits unless we see some serious repercussions of our habits on our health. Your skin is your body’s first layer of defense against pollution, weather, harmful chemicals, and so many other things. It’s essential for us to take care of our skin and pay attention to our everyday life habits that may be destroying your skin gradually.
Here is a list of your daily habits that could be harming your skin:
1. Eating Fatty And Sugary Foods
Yes, you read that right. The consequences of eating fatty and sugary foods are not limited to weight gain. These foods can affect your hormone balance causing oiliness, pimples, and other skin problems.
2. Taking Long Hot Showers Or Bath
Long-time in hot water can cause dehydration and it can also ruin the epidermis (upper layer of the skin). Try to use lukewarm water and always apply lotion after your shower.
3. Not Drinking Enough Water
If your body is dehydrated then your skin will be dehydrated too. Dehydration can prevent your body from flushing out the skin’s impurities (an essential process). It’s important to drink enough water.
4. Over-Exfoliating
Exfoliation once a week is enough for healthy and glowing skin. Overdoing exfoliation and using harsh scrubs can cause skin irritation and damage. If you have a skin problem, consult a dermatologist before doing anything to your face.
5. Not Cleaning Or Wiping Your Phone
We spend a lot of our time on phone these days. But, cellphones can be dirtier than you ever thought. When it comes in contact with your skin, especially your face, the germs can transfer to your skin and cause pimples and acne. You need to clean your phone regularly to prevent this.
6. Using Other People’s Cosmetics
Ever used your friend’s face powder or lip gloss when you are in a hurry or forgot to bring yours? You might be inviting germs to your skin. Hygiene is very important to avoid skin problems, so it’s better to not share your cosmetics and not use others also.
7. Touching And Popping Pimples
The urge to touch and pop your pimples is something we all experience. But all it does is push bacteria deeper into the pores of the skin causing more pimples and breakouts.
8. Lack Of Sleep
Your body heals and naturally repairs the damage when you sleep. Not sleeping enough interrupts that natural way of healing causing skin problems like dark circles, wrinkles, etc.
9. Tanning
We tend to be careless in applying sunscreen when going out leading to skin tanning. Tanning can cause pre-maturely older looking skin and sometimes it can lead to skin cancer too.
10. Stress
Too much stress can affect your skin badly. It can cause dullness, rashes and stress lines on your face.
We should try to change as much of these habits as we can, but try as we might, it is very hard to change habits instantly which are ingrained in our brain. One thing you can do is to include a regular skincare routine to counter these bad habits. What is your mantra for keeping your skin healthy? Do let me know in the comments section.
