When your skin at the feet and heels get too dry, the skin cracks and fissures are formed. Open cracked skin is not only bleeding and painful but also ugly too. Sometimes split open skin also leads to serious infections by allowing bacteria and virus in through the fissures. Why this dryness? So many reasons are there for this dryness or insufficient moisture.
Cold or winter weather: Winter is one of the reasons where your skin gets a high rate of damaged. This is due to that during cold weather the humidity in the atmosphere is low and they strip off the moisture from your exposed skin; other than these, a less exposure to the sunlight, where vitamin D (good for skin) is not there for the skin to absorb and nourish.
Using harsh or high chemical containing soap: Using hard soap means chemical rich soap which washes off the moisture that presents in the skin and giving the roughness to it.
Poor hydration and toxins settlement: Intake of less amount of water dehydrates your body. You already know that the bodily waste is removed through the skin as sweat. Due to dehydration, sweating is not done properly and the toxins are settled in the body itself resulting in the poor maintenance of the skin. Diabetic patients often go as dehydrated ones. So they are easily prone to cracks.
Obesity: Due to overweight, the pressure on the feet pad is increased and skin expansion is over then its limit causes cracks. The nerves and blood supply to their feet get affected generally. Obviously, the skin gets less moisture.
Hot baths, soaking frequently or long: Soaking your feet in too hot, too long in hot water or frequent soaking in hot water, and followed by a deep scrubbing will damage the skin too much at the feet and heal.
Apart from these, psoriasis, eczema, thyroid disease and some other skin conditions might be the reason.
