We all have spent our lockdown period by cooking something special every day and by eating cakes or something unhealthy and completely neglecting our health. But its time to wake up now and let ourselves enjoy our life with more energy, better moods, glowing skin. To experience all these things, what we need to do is, breaking up with sugar.
I know it is difficult for everyone if we have spent our most of the life eating sweet dishes. But nothing is impossible if we really want to do it.
UK-based dentist and author, James Goinik suggests that you need to come up with the diet plan if you want to quit sugar.
Here are some important facts that we need to understand for breaking up with the sugar.
Why is sugar bad for you?
We have always heard that sugar is bad for us but we never stopped from consuming it. There are so many problems we add in our lives if we add sugar in our food like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and some cancers.
Nowadays, sweet foods have replaced more nutritious foods as a source of calories, and once we are addicted to sugar, it is very difficult for us to quit. It even discourages us from eating other foods.
Sweets are high in calories and it definitely helps us in increasing our waistlines.

How to deal with cravings
Cravings are our greatest enemy when we are on our diet. We experience mental and physical withdrawal but all these issues are temporary and it will give the best result in the near future if we continue to avoid sugar or sweet foods.
Sometimes sugar withdrawal can affect our sleep and mood and sometimes we experience headaches. To avoid all these, drink 8 glasses of water and get yourself out for exercise.
Fill the kitchen with nutritious foods and load the fridge with fresh and health veggies and juices.
We have experienced that while we are getting bored we make bad choices in our diet and it leads to an unhealthy lifestyle. So try to avoid doing things which are against our mood and indulge ourselves in something motivating and interesting.
To avoid your cravings you can do these simple things:
- Drink a glass of water.
- Enjoy your herbal tea.
- A wall will help.
- Meditate and try breathing exercises.
- Slowly count to 10, it will help in fighting with the craving.
Find support
Support is what we all need during our challenge days. Try to enlist family or friends and create a group and send recipes of nutritious dishes and motivate each other to make them.
Don’t ever try to start the journey around celebrations. This will demotivate us so always try to collect some willpower and start the journey long before the celebration or just after it.
