Kiran Bedi was born into a Sikh family to open-minded and liberal parents. |
Her father was a textile businessman and grown up into a family where Sikh-religion was followed along with Hindu culture too. |
Her father was an active tennis player and she gradually got interested in this sport after getting influenced by her father. She started playing tennis at the age of 9 and took participate in tennis championship at the national level. |
She has three sisters and all of them used to play tennis in their childhood days after being inspired by their father, one of her sisters is a professional tennis player. |
She once admitted that her grandfather was against their education into a convent or Christian school and stopped giving allowance to her father. However, her father didn’t listen and kept continuing the convent education along with her sister. |

When she was intended to join Indian Civil Service in Amritsar, she met her future-husband Brij Bedi, whom she married later in a Mandir. |
