If you’re like most people, you probably can’t wait to discuss a major goal when you have one. You become very excited and want to tell everyone. It’s frequently done with the good goal of making you accountable for the dreams and hopes that would otherwise remain hidden in your mind. Additionally, by letting everyone know, it may seem as though you are putting your plans into motion. It seems that’s not the case, though. All of it is not. Here are a few reasons, why you should keep your goals to yourself.
Gives a fake sense of moving towards the goal:
Keep your major goals a secret at the very least for a while. Setting goals is best done in solitude, which may come as a surprise. Furthermore, rushing to notify your family, coworkers, and friends is not the best course of action for achieving your goals.
The likelihood that we will achieve our goals can actually be lowered if we share them impulsively or too soon. In fact, just telling others about these intentions makes you feel accomplished since it deceives your brain into thinking you’ve accomplished anything. We unconsciously believe that we have made progress toward reaching that goal, despite the fact that this is not the case. This fictitious effort, therefore, reduces our intrinsic drive to really begin the work and the chance that we’ll take additional actions to reach the goal.
Break the news after some substantial progress:
If you’re serious about achieving a goal, you might want to stop publicizing and hold off on posting on social media until you’ve actually made some headway. This notion has been supported by focus groups since the 1930s. Participants who had a goal but had held onto it for a while were far more driven and internally fired to move through with fulfilling their aims. While others who instantly declared their plans without building any groundwork lingered for a much longer period of time—if not forever—in those crucial early phases, and ultimately were much less likely to succeed.

Shouting your goals from the rooftops has another drawback, besides deceiving you into believing you’ve made actual progress. Prematurely announcing your new objective is like exposing a tender seedling to the hot sun. You share your concept before it’s ready, exposing it to the harsh criticism of the world. Wait instead. Guard it. Get to know it thoroughly. Know what you want, why you want it, and how you’re going to get it. Develop it so that when the time comes to share it with the world, you’ll be in a position to accept constructive criticism, make modifications, pay attention to insightful feedback, and confidently silence the doubters. because detractors will always exist.
Don’t get bottled up:
While it’s crucial to keep your aspirations and fantasies to yourself for a while, you don’t have to keep your mouth shut indefinitely. Select a friend, mentor, or confidant when the time is right. It should be someone you respect and whose judgement you value highly. Start by bouncing your ideas and the aim off of them. Show them your current location and your desired destination. Be sure about everything. Observe how events unfold apart from your own head. This is a fun development! You are releasing stuff into the cosmos. Things are occurring. Synapses are activating! Watch their responses. And act accordingly, adjusting, fiddling, and chugging forward to achieve your objective. And when you’re ready, start sharing the news with the rest of the world gradually.
