Kids don’t follow advice they follow you.
- Be a role model for your kids – Show your kids what you want them to do. We learn by imitation and especially children who watch and imitate everything you do. Respect your child, show them positive behavior and attitude, have empathy towards your child’s emotion — and your child will follow suit.
- Show love – Love is never too much, shower them with all you’ve got. Things like material indulgence, leniency, low expectation and over-protection given in the name of love is what spoils the kids. Lots of hugs, spending quality time and listening to them is all they need. Love triggers the release of happy hormones like oxytocin, opioids, and prolactin bring a deep sense of calm, emotional warmth and contentment.
- Positive parenting – Positive parenting helps to strengthen and sculpt positive experiences and memories for children. This creates good connections in your child’s brain, but they also form the memories of you that your child carries for life. Setting limits and being consistent are the keys to good discipline. Be kind and firm when enforcing.
