She was born into a financially comfortable Albanian family. They had their own two houses and one was in which they lived. |
Anja was in love with missionaries at an early age, when she was 12 she knew that she wanted to commit herself to religious vocations. |
When she left Ireland, she had not met her mother and sisters till her death at 87. |
In 1948, she set aside her nun profession, and adapted simple white blue-bordered sari and sandals, and moved to a rented hovel in slums to start her work. |
Teresa’s life in 1st-year hovel was very difficult, she had no way of income, food, and water and had returned to her convent life and had relied on her determination & faith. |
Her first project was to teach poor children. She had no supply of paper and pen, that’s why she made them read and write with dirt and sticks. |
By promoting education, she also taught poor kids about maintaining basic proper hygiene. She paid a visit to their families so that they would be able to help her out in providing basic hygiene. |
